Setup an artist studio, purchase the right art equipment, paints and other materials to start your beginner art practice.

Setting up a studio space- learning objectives will be to explore different studio setups with Painting. This will entail learning about using easels, brush types, painting supports and an explanation and understanding what paint to purchase when at the art store and quality of different manufacturing paint brands.
Getting started on a paint project: learning objectives will include starting with a toned canvas. layout and drawing tips for beginners, how to grid your photo reference, blocking in value shapes. I would like to use a paining that everyone can follow along with step by step instructions that are downloadable for the client.
Working through a basic painting project.
Finishing your painting: learning objectives include tips for finishing artwork, value, contrast, controlling the paint brash and controlling edges in a beginner painting. Finishing your painting with a simple varnish option, wiring and hanging your finished artwork.

Meet Your Instructor
Theresa is a full-time artist based in Medicine Hat, AB. She grew up in the historic River Flats neighborhood and has spent her artistic career capturing the places she remembers as a child.
Theresa established her studio in 2013. It sports 2000 square feet of working space, and 1000 square feet of classroom space, where she paints a variety of artwork for sale, private commissions, and for galleries. She actively teaches private lessons and conducts workshops using mixed media painting materials.
Her paintings are in many private and corporate collections across Alberta. They have been featured in the Federation of Canadian Artists Group Exhibits and are sold both locally in Medicine Hat and in Ottawa.

What is an LUessentials Class?
LUessentials Classes help artists learn fundamental skills. They are focused classes each led by a Professional Artist.
Classes take place weekly for 4 weeks. Each session is 1 hour long, live and in-person over Zoom videoconference.

Are the LUessentials Classes recorded?
To ensure the safety of our community, we record all videocalls. However, these recordings are NOT available to participants in LUessentials Classes.
We believe that interacting with other artists is essential to an artist's growth, and so we've made LU incredibly accessible via videocall. We want you to attend each of your classes in-person.
